Penelope Clare specializes in crafting vivid, historically rich novels that transport readers to the past, favoring themes of women’s empowerment, social justice, and equality. Her historical fiction is set in beautifully detailed worlds, from Victorian England to adventurous voyages across the seas, where independent women navigate resilience, societal challenges, and personal growth. With a focus on plot-driven narratives and authentic relationships, she writes lighthearted, engaging tales that captivate readers looking for a fresh take on historical stories—offering an immersive experience that blends history, adventure, and deep, meaningful connections.
PLUS recently she embarked on a quick summer project to write a free helpful guide for writers looking to start their first novel. Somehow it turned into a major fun project.
Here’s her bio for this new non-fiction series of ”How To Books”.
Penelope Clare is not an authority on writing, or an expert in the use of the comma but—she does love a good em dash.
She recently published her debut novel after a marathon effort to finish from go to whoa in only seven months. Why? To see if she could. And as a time and motion study for a career switch into a field she has long dreamed about.
Turns out she could. With no background in writing, poor attendance in grammar and punctuation classes during school and no idea what she was getting herself into—the experiment began.
Vague ideas of sitting with a cool drink in hand while she turned her raconteur skills into an author's voice soon were replaced with the reality of teaching herself everything from writing jargon to social media.
Her advice to the aspiring or stuck debut author—I Did It, You Can Too!
And these guides will show you how she became a published author, making sales in only seven months.
You can follow on TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, Threads, Goodreads or Amazon and keep up with all the fun of the journey. Reels with snapshots of the author’s life on the sea, writing experience and the inevitable frustrations.
